Charity Event: Construction Cares at the Pipe Shop
Construction Cares is a fun-filled indoor fair running from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018 at The Pipe Shop in North Vancouver with net proceeds going to The Isaac Foundation, benefiting Hunter Syndrome/MPS II research in Canada.
This indoor fair is for adults and children of all ages, with games and activities hosted by local businesses. Bike Valet and admission are by donation, and activity tickets will be on sale for $2 each. Enjoy delicious food from local vendors: Cinco de Mayo for some authentic Mexican food; Culver City Salads for those wanting an organic offering; and Dolce Amore with their authentic Italian gelato.

Along with the above activities, the Pipe Shop will be full of super fun games for kids of all ages, including a Spider Boxer game sponsored by Griffins Boxing; Electronic High Striker Game & Kiddie High Striker Game side by side (so adults and children can play together); and an Xtreme Skateboard game. Also look for two very special characters strolling the event from 12-4pm, Elsa and Spiderman!

What is Hunter Syndrome?
Hunter Syndrome is another name for MPS Type 2. Mucopolysaccharidosis type II is a rare and degenerative enzyme disorder that primarily affects males.
What’s happening with research/ the cure?
The MPS II research fund is managed by the Isaac Foundation, whose practices are amazing: 99% of funds earned go directly to research, they charge no administrative fees, they have a small medical board of 3 doctors who rate all requests for research funds, and they manage research funds for all 6 types of MPS.
Is there a cure?
There’s potentially a cure but it needs to move to human trials. The cost to trial on 9 children would be $2-3 million.
What will the event proceeds be benefiting?
Net funds raised at Construction Cares will go directly to the MPS II Research Fund, which is managed by the Isaac Foundation.
Over the next few years we’re aiming to raise $2 million, as this is the lowest possible cost to send a potential cure to human clinical trials.
Who is Trey Purcell?
Trey Purcell is a 13 year old North Van resident with MPS II. He is the eldest of 4 siblings, and daughter of Deb & Ryan.
Trey has defied the odds given to him as a child (he was diagnosed at age 1) by living into his teenage years.
Trey is an incredibly warm, loving kid with support from his family and the whole community.

How did Naikoon Contracting get involved?
Naikoon built the Purcell’s new home in 2016/17.
The home required several special features to account for Trey’s unique requirements.
The crew developed a fondness for Trey while building and interacting with the family, and wanted to do something to help.
