Shop Local with Made in the 604
We can confidently say that Lower Lonsdale has the look and feel of a Hallmark Christmas movie. With an abundance of tasty food selections and cozy marketplaces - there is something for everyone in this quaint little community. With fall in full swing, we’re excited to spend our mornings strolling the pier, evenings at a Nook for an Aperol spritz and afternoons for pop-up markets.
Last month, Made in the 604 hosted a community pop-up market dedicated to supporting and curating the best local artists, makers and businesses in Vancouver! Hosted at our historic pipe shop, this market focuses on supporting locals and keeping communities thriving, unique and strong. On October 16th, a group of local businesses had the opportunity to set up booths in the truly one-of-a-kind newly renovated heritage building, the shipyards Pipe-shop! Out of the many local businesses that joined in on the fun, a few stood out from the crowd that has captured our attention. Here are 3 of our favourite local entrepreneurs:
The Nudie Collective
Melt away your insecurities — literally. The Nudie Collective is a home and wellness brand focused on racial inclusivity and body diversity while elevating your home! This Lower Lonsdale-born candle business has joined the movement to a future where all shapes, sizes and colours are celebrated. Lead for and by women, their collective goal is simple: to grow your self-love and share their appreciation for female nudity. Their year-long project was rooted in the notion that they each wanted to work toward healing their relationship with their bodies and hope to inspire the same in their community. Surf and stone is a beach-inspired jewelry brand focused on pearl accessories, such as rings, necklaces and anklets. Run by Chloe and Moses, a couple who is deeply passionate about jewellery, both have a keen eye for detail. Chloe is the mastermind behind all the designs and started off by making Miyuki earrings. She’s found joy in branching out into other designs including pearl rings, and necklaces. Moses, on the other hand, has a different area of expertise - focusing on the business side of things. This dynamic duo creates these stunning pieces in Vancouver, BC!
Caroline Wallace Jewelry is designed within Vancouver, BC (situated on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations). The brand was born out of an existing passion for working with sterling silver, and her personal understanding of the need and importance of creativity in feeding the soul. Often, jewelry is referred to as the ‘armour’ one puts on in battling and facing the day. Caroline has a deep love for handcrafted designs that are as unique as their owners. Inspired by shapes and textures in her surrounding environment, the collection reflects pieces that compliment you on a daily basis while making a statement. Each item is made on a made-to-order basis, hoping to reduce waste and truly purchase the exact amount of raw materials needed.
Before making a purchase, consider looking at locally sourced, created and sold items by small businesses from our beautiful city! Made in the 604 will be hosting more pop-ups in the coming months!
