The North Shore Snack Bike
Have you ever been enjoying some time outside in the sun, and started craving a snack to cool you down? I think we all have. Unfortunately, there isn’t always a convenient spot nearby to pick up your popsicle or freezie. Luckily for us, Addison, the founder of the North Shore Snack Bike, is here to solve that problem. The North Shore Snack Bike sells three frozen treats to cool you down, including MaxFrut Popsicles, Freezies in multiple flavours, and ice cream sandwiches. If it’s not too hot or you’re craving a savory snack, Addison also sells salt & vinegar chips to help scratch that itch. You can follow @northshoresnackbike on Instagram to learn more, and to stay informed about his schedule and location!
Addison is a young entrepreneur who is entering grade 9 this fall. This summer, Addison decided to start his own company to sell popsicles, freezies, ice cream sandwiches, and chips out of his cargo bike. He created the idea during a school project he did for a business and marketing class he took the previous year at school. Even though there was no need to follow through with creating the business, Addison saw promise in the venture and decided to make it a reality. Although Addison is only 14, the snack bike is not the first job he’s had. He also refs soccer games and works as an umpire for baseball games. It was through these jobs that he was able to save up enough money to fund his new company, which included a new cargo bike with a cooler, the snacks that he’s selling, and all of the insurance and business licensing fees that he had to pay. Although he has received help from his parents, almost everything, including all of the company’s branding and marketing, has been done by himself. He came up with the idea, designed his logo, chose what to sell, and started the Instagram he uses for marketing.
When asked what set him apart from the competition, Addison said that he had options that adults tend to prefer for themselves and their kids. His best-selling product, and what he recommends most for parents, is the MaxFrut bar, which is a popsicle made locally with 100% natural fruit, and without artificial flavours or colours. Addison says it’s a great option for adults and kids alike because they taste great, but are pretty healthy as well.
Addison will be continuing to sell his snacks until school starts again. After that, he will still be operating, although hours may be reduced based on his school schedule. You can usually find him at Mahon park during the evenings, but the easiest way for you to learn more about Addison and his company, or to keep up to date with where he’ll be setting up shop next is by following @northshoresnackbike on Instagram! See you out there!
